Everyone driving a car needs insurance. It's got your back when dealing with car issues, like accidents, theft, fire, Mother Nature's surprises, or other mishaps. If your car causes damage or injuries, it's got you covered there, too. But, if you lose your insurance, can you download the soft copy again? Yes, you can do it conveniently. Let’s know how.
Have you lost your insurance papers or put them somewhere and can't remember where? No worries. You can get a new set from your insurer's site or other Internet sources. Here, we will discuss how to download a car Insurance policy online.
Before anything else, you need to understand what your car insurance policy is composed of. There are two types of motor insurance: Third-party liability cover and comprehensive insurance. The former protects you against any third-party liabilities arising from an accident caused by your insured vehicle. Most people tend to buy the latter which comes as a package deal, covering third-party liabilities and own damage. Over and above these are the policy add-ons that can be used to supercharge your comprehensive insurance.
Your car Insurance policy copy can be downloaded online based on the source and policy type. Here are some common methods:
• Open the official website of your insurer and visit the car Insurance section.
• Please log in and fill in your name, policy number, and contact number.
• A download option will be reflected. Shortly after clicking the mentioned button, you might receive an OTP or a link to your registered email address.
• Enter OTP or click the link to view your car Insurance policy document.
• View, save, or print policy documents as you require.
• The MORTH website requires your car registration number in the 'Know your vehicle details' section.
• It includes the car's make, model, colour, gasoline type, and engine number.
• You can find your auto insurance policy's insurer, policy number, and renewal date listed.
• View or print your policy document as per your requirements.
• Start by going to IIB's main webpage. There, enter your car's registration number into the 'V-Seva' field.
• This will reveal handy details about your car Insurance, like who insures you, what your policy number is, when it expires, what's covered, and for how much.
• It'll also show any past claims made on your car. At your convenience, you can view or print your policy document.
You need to keep your car insurance papers safe and within the vehicle at all times. If a traffic police officer stops you and asks you for insurance documents, you have to present at least a valid third-party car insurance policy, if not a comprehensive one. If you fail to do so, you will be penalised with heavy challans and multiple violations can even lead to jail time. Similarly, you also need to keep a copy of your car insurance safe because you will need it to file a claim for the vehicle in case of accident or vehicle theft.
In case you lose your car policy, you should check your email first for a copy. Since most car insurance is now sold online, insurance companies send a copy of the policy to your email for future use. Otherwise, you can download a duplicate copy of the insurance from the insurer’s website or by using their app. Many insurance companies also provide support on WhatsApp where you can chat with a company agent to get a policy copy. Similarly, you can also call up customer support hotline of the insurer to get a policy copy. For new cars, the vehicle showroom generally has a copy of your policy on record and they can provide a duplicate. Those who got their policy from an agent can get a duplicate policy copy from that person.
A printed copy of the policy is enough as proof. You can get the printed copy scanned and multiple copies of it printed for future needs.
First of all, you need to keep a copy of the policy in the car because if a traffic police ask you for it, you have to show the insurance document. Otherwise, you will be given a challan.
You can check your email to find a duplicate policy copy. Otherwise, you can contact the company customer support by phone or Whatsapp and they will send you a duplicate copy of the policy. Another way to download a duplicate policy copy is from the Insurance Information Bureau V-Seva portal.

The insurance company will provide you with one copy of the policy. If it is a soft copy, you can create multiple copies of it very easily.
