- What is Tangible Personal Property?
- Tangible Personal Property is everything other than real estate that has value by itself. It includes such items as furniture, fixtures, tools, machinery, household appliances, signs, equipment, leasehold improvements, supplies, leased equipment and any other equipment used in a business or to earn income.
Important Dates to Remember
- April 1 - Deadline to File for Extension. If an extension is granted, penalties will begin to accrue if not filed.
- August - Proposed Property Tax Notices are mailed by the Property Appraiser.
- January 1 - Date of Assessment. Florida Statute §192.042
- January 1 to April 1 - Dates for Filing. Florida Statute §193.062
- November - Tax bills are typically mailed by the Tax Collector.
- September - Deadlines for filing petitions to the Value Adjustment Board are included on the Notice of Proposed Property Taxes mailed in August.
Helpful Hints
- Additional information regarding filing is provided in the instructional section of the return itself.
- Do not use vague terms such as "various" to describe assets or years purchased.
- File the original return from this office (with name and account number preprinted), when possible. Be sure to sign and date your return.
- Identify any equipment that may have been "physically removed." List those items in the appropriate space on your return.
- If you sell your business, go out of business, or move to a new location, please inform this office. Use downloadable Change of Business Status form.
- It is to your advantage to provide a breakdown of assets since depreciation on each item may vary.
